This is banana pelipita ?
Where are you in South Carolina?? I want to have bananas on my property so picked some up called cavendish Banana I didn’t read or research. Cold hardiness 40 to 30 •f non hardy zone of course is 1-9 I’m in South Carolina go figure they are selling them here though I was getting a deal. Anyway, I wanted to know if they will still grow bananas if there’s a way that I can get them through the cold and still be able to keep these and if they’ll get bigger than 3 feet high and 2 feet wide? Is there still a way that I’ll be able to keep these and if they’ll be able to have bananas?
I'm on James Island, near Charleston. I have never had much luck with Cavendish. Where are you in SC?
Works better if you use 30% or 45% vinegar
I bet.
Hey there, what soil would you recommend recommend for a 6A Musa Basjoo on a slightly raised bed? Any specific soil types I could just go to Home Depot and buy such as miracle, grill, palm, cactus and citrus mix?
You want nutritious loam that is well draining. What you suggested will be fine as well. Good Luck!
@@SimplyBananas1 Thank you for the response. Is there any better name brands you recommend from big box stores like home deport anything maybe better than mircale grow you think I should use? Anything I could mix in with the soil? Thank you again for the help
@@Lo1XDImNoob When I dig up plants, I add generic compost into the hole. You don't need any name brand.
Black plastic works to starve it of day light
no daylight and heat to destroy the growing parts.
Also try dig a long root up and place in a bucket of sails water and vinegar and let it suck it up
i recall reading somewhere that those seeds are poisonous. Any truth to that?
I have never heard that, but they may break your teeth if you try to chew them.
I have clay like soil. What should I mix with the soil to make it the proper type?
Cheap generic compost from Lowes, (it contains a good bit of sand). Sometimes it has a rock or 2.
Update?
Ok.... I'll get crackin' on an update!
From your other videos, what is the thing that grows out of the center on a plant when you cut it?
It is typically a part of the next leaf that is travelling up the trunk
@@SimplyBananas1 Thank you! That explains it
Hey, I have baby bananas and they don’t have any mature leaves yet, they were a bit overwatered so I cut water for a week and a half and today I watered and put them outside. Right now it’s 90 degrees outside and I walked out to check on them and they’re all droopy! Is this the reason behind it? They don’t have mature leaves like this they still have little seedling ones.
This is very like the reason!
@@SimplyBananas1 Sorry, one more question, thank you for the response! I put them outside and one leaf got sunburnt, and I also bought from my local garden center a pretty large Basjoo with a pup coming out in a 10 in container and has a height of 3-4ft. I’ll plant it next weekend or the weekend after because I don’t have much time, but when I do plant it, someone recommended I build a little hut out of wooden stakes and put shade cloth over the top and slowly cut away over the days to help it get used to the sun, this spot receives direct sun from 7AM - 3:30PM. Is this a good idea or are there any other tips to help a banana get used to light? I had the pots in direct sun for 20 minutes today and will probably do 25 tomorrow. And also how often should I water a 10 in pot for a basjoo? It’s still fairly damp so I won’t be watering today.
@@Lo1XDImNoob where are you located? Also if you just bought them, keep them in partial sun/shade for a week or so before full sun. They are likely in a bit of shock.. Water them when every few days or if they get dry. Its hard to say exactly when since it depnds on how fast the plant transpires the water out of the leaves.
@@SimplyBananas1 Zone 6A Massachusetts, yes I had them in direct sun for 30 minutes today, and tomorrow it will be 30 again and slowly it will increase. I’ll water when the top two or three inches are dry if that will help
@@Lo1XDImNoob sounds like a good plan!
Thank you
You're welcome! Have a great week!
30 hours day time, very weird
I'm in South Carolina... thats how we roll.
@@SimplyBananas1 great observation bytheway
Beautiful ornamental banana flowers on a small tree with a very little beautiful pink flower❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
But the flower has the banana....
The female banana flowers are produced first... then the male bananas. Only the females become edible bananas... them male banana flowers are for pollination, which is not needed. That is why we cut them off.
My new mission is to learn to separate. I have about 500 trees in the ground now, and most have at least 2 pups, many of them 3-5! My success rate is pretty low, and it disgusts me. I have a bad habit of slicing then through without a stitch of root. Great video!
Thank you!. It just takes a little practice... I do that as well... sometimes it is unavoidable!
That’s how big for 30hrs wow
Under the right conditions.... they grow very fast!
Free and potentially loaded with pesticides, chemicals, etc. I woudn't be putting anything like that near anything that is consumable. unless you know what people are using on their lawns I would be very cautious assuming their lawn clippings are safe.
Ya can't spend life scared. Most people here hate to cut their grass... its pita and expensive. They most likely aren't artificially making it grow faster/greener.
I think I overwatered mine. I'm not sure but mine doesn't look too good. I had to cut off a few of the leaves and only one is left.
You can go a bit easy on the watering until it starts to get raelly hot. The more leaves they have, the more water they suck up and transpire. One leaf... not so much.
@@SimplyBananas1 should I also remove the mulch around it? I noticed one new leaf trying to come out but it hasn't budged for a week.
How’s are you? I’m your new fans here ❤❤❤
Welcome welcome!
Saba talaga favorite ko
Me too!
Watching cause my Super Dwarf Banana was crammed inside for the winter and didn't put out many leaves... Well it did but they were small and stuck. I was able to prune and open up the top without cutting it completely and free the leaves, still having trouble opening up but the leaves aren't bound anymore. Been giving it some sun and slowly opening the tree up, Fingers crossed it bounces back fast and I see a flower popping out in 6-8 weeks! I want my 3-5cm bananas!
Good luck my friend. It sounds like they are on the way up!
5 years later. Still answer peoples question. Was thinking they where over watered. Im quick to love a plant to death.
I always answer questions!! Good luck growing this summer!
Ngl id try to eat that
OOOh!
Thanks for the tip on dropping leaves🇫🇷
Sure thing!
You da man i hate paying too lmao
Rock on, bruthuh!
I wrapped mine in the winter, but in the spring when I unwrapped them, they were mushy and rotted. What did I do wrong to save the trunk?
Oh no--- Two ideas why... it was too cold and you had a complete freeze thru (plastic did not help) or it was too warm and the plastic sort of sufficated them. 😢
So vi conversa não vi matar nada
É difícil mostrar isso... mas não houve novo crescimento, então eles foram mortos.
My question is if i cut it in half, and plant the upper half will it grow back?
It depends on a few things, the age of the banana stalk and what the reason is that you would need to do that.
❤❤❤❤❤
🎉❤❤❤
I need banana leaves ❤❤
I would like to request banana leaves okay Dear friend ❤️🙏💕
Ok 😊
Thanks very much for sharing videos ❤❤ keep stay connected dear friend 🥰 I'm from Cambodia nice to see you 🥰 Simply Bananas
Thanks for visiting! I would like to visit Cambodia one day.
Very freshing banana leaves ❤❤ I would like to request banana leaves for cutting okay?
Sounds good! Where are you located?
you do a great job teaching! much more helpful cause you show before and after cutting, sprouting, etc.
Thank you so much!
If you can could you try some other cold hardy bananas such as sikkimensis red tiger? It's popular here in Scotland and I find it does grow for longer than basjoo in our damp cool season. This guy has done well with bananas at the north of Scotland ua-cam.com/video/AgXIKBRjSxw/v-deo.htmlsi=JXyYAdCw41Kc6wym
I planted my hardy musa basjo in the Midwest where it was hit with -24°F temps for a few days. Even though I wrapped it in frost wrap, put a frost tent around it, and mulched it. I checked on it recently and the whole thing went to mush and fell over. 😭
Wow that is cold.... lets see what happens in the coming months. I have heard they were cold hardy down past 20F... but minus 24--Yikes... please keep us updated!
I did the same last night in Summerville,SC. I was surprised mine were already pushing out green leaves! This past winter was warm enough here that my sweet lime tree didn't even lose many leaves. Super weird winter, I'll take it!
💯 Fairly typical in that it is unpredictable.
at some time you wont be able to defoliate them without a crane🤣🤣
so dam true.....
It's always exciting to see the bananas coming back to life again!
It certainly is 🤩
Always a good sign to see green on the inside! How would you rank these 4 cold hardy banana types from your favorite to least favorite as far as taste and cold Hardiness? Dwarf Namwah, Dwarf Brazillian, Goldfinger, Raja Puri....Curious to get your take on the order you would choose them in from best to worst, Thanks.
Raja, Namwah, and Goldfnger are about the same... as cold hardiness... Brazilian the least... taste Namwah and Braz are the best...
Bulgaria zone 7b, already uncovered;) enjoy the season
Awesome! Happy 🍌 growing!
But in 30hr no night observed, it's world record 😂

wow 👀
That “banana blood” is clear but as he says it will make your clothes look like they are blood soaked with a rusty brown stain that is impossible to remove. You don’t see it the first day for the most part but by the time it goes to the wash it’s there.
💯✅
Do your monkeys bite? Bananas?
Thank you from Australia .
G'day! You are very welcome.... from South Carolina!
I have a question , my banana plants are doing okk till know, but the forcast is showing -1 for the next week . Should i cover them or they will survive?? My question is does -1 really affect and kill the stems?
The severity of the freeze will affect the stem to some degree. The larger the stem, the less danger of a freeze through.
